How the team was formed: pilfered from
"The basic story is that a race director (who apparently wasn't thinking) decided instead of calling men Clydesdale's and women Athena's he would call men Buffalo's and women Hippo's. After hearing that story we laughed so hard we needed to celebrate that event.
After reviewing the wikipedia article of which the main points are here:
'The hippopotamus is recognizable for its barrel-shaped torso, enormous mouth and teeth, hairless body, stubby legs, it can easily outrun a human. Hippos have been clocked at 30 mph (48 km/h) while running short distances, faster than an Olympic sprinter. The hippopotamus is among the most dangerous and aggressive of all animals, and are thought to be Africa's most dangerous animal.'
What better than the noble Hippo who swims well, outruns Olympic sprinters and kills more people than any other mammal in Africa to represent our team. Water covers 80% of the earth and Team Hippo is ok with that."
Clydesdale: male triathlete weighing greater than 200lbs.
Athena: female triathlete weighing greater than 150lbs.
